Klettersteigpark Stoderzinken — via ferrata in Gröbming

Dachstein · Gröbming, Steiermark

A compact via ferrata park above Gröbming, strung between the car park below the Steinerhaus (1,805 m) and the Stoderzinken summit (2,048 m). Eight routes side by side span A/B to E — from a children's line to one of the harder routes in the region — so a mixed group can split up and meet again at the bottom. The names commemorate local figures: Karl is Karl Matuschik, a founder of the Gröbming mountain rescue; Julius is Julius Steiner, who between 1958 and 1968 built the road, the lifts and the Steinerhaus; Emil is Emil Ritter von Horstig; and David is David Zefferer, the last miner of the old pit on the Stoderzinken. The Florasteig approach is not a walking path — it needs sure footing and a head for heights. With snow lying, bergsteigen.com advises against any of the routes.

steiermark.com lists four routes and grades Karl C/D; bergsteigen.com lists six plus the Florasteig approach and grades Karl D and Julius E. We use the harder grades and the fuller list. The object's grade is the ceiling (Julius, E), not the threshold — David and the Florasteig are A/B.

The route is unstaffed and free to enter — the months below are the season given by the sources, not opening hours. Weather and snow decide; check conditions with the local tourist office before you go.

Gear and requirements

Harness, via ferrata lanyard with an energy absorber (EN 958) and a helmet. The route is unstaffed with no rental at the start — bring your own gear or hire it down in the valley.

Tickets: The via ferratas themselves are free. A paid alpine toll road leads up the Stoderzinken — about 9 km from Gröbming to the car park below the Steinerhaus. A shuttle bus runs during the summer holidays. We do not give amounts because the sources do not publish them.
