Burgenklettersteig Manderscheid — via ferrata in Manderscheid

A route linking the two castles above the Lieser valley — Niederburg and Oberburg — with a bridge between them. Three hours of climbing for barely two hundred metres of ascent, because the line runs across the slopes rather than up them.

Free access, but only in season. Season: March – November.

The route is unstaffed and free to enter — the months below are the guidebook season. On the non-Alpine crags it is damp and ice that decide rather than altitude; after rain the limestone and sandstone can be unclimbable.

Gear and requirements

Harness, via ferrata lanyard with an energy absorber (EN 958) and a helmet. The route is unstaffed with no rental at the start — bring your own gear or hire it down in the valley.

Tickets: Free to enter — the route has no ticket office and no staff.
