Franzi - Klettersteig (Reiteralm) — via ferrata in Schladming

Schladminger Tauern · Schladming, Steiermark

The first via ferrata in the Schladming Tauern, protected with steel cable and rungs, on the flank of the Reiteralm. From the Preunegg Jet top station it is about half an hour along path 66 toward the Rippetegg, past the reservoir; the start is by a bench near the turning for the Untersee. The exit lands close to the Reiteralm walking loop, so you can return over the Gasselhöhe or extend the day to the Rippetegg and the Spiegelsee. After rain the rock turns very slippery and the sources advise against going. Sources differ on the entry altitude: 1,780 m on bergsteigen.com, 1,800 m on the regional portal.

bergsteigen.com and the regional portal give C/D, while a reviewer on via-ferrata.de puts it closer to C. We use the harder grade. The difficulty is uneven: most of the route is B/C, with the hardest section in the upper part.
