Hindelanger Klettersteig — via ferrata in Oberstdorf

A nearly four-kilometre ridge between the Nebelhorn and the Großer Daumen: ladders, steep steps and long exposed ridge sections in turn. It starts at the top station of the Nebelhorn cable car, has two emergency descents, and not every steep passage is cabled.

Season and hours

Free access, but only in season. Season: July – October.

The route is unstaffed and free to enter — the months below are the guidebook season, not opening hours. In the Alps snow decides: high routes are often passable only from July. Check conditions with the cable car operator or the local tourist office.

Gear and requirements

Harness, via ferrata lanyard with an energy absorber (EN 958) and a helmet. The route is unstaffed with no rental at the start — bring your own gear or hire it down in the valley.

Tickets: The ferrata itself is free, but the standard approach uses a cable car and that is paid. The operator revises the fares every season — check before you go.
